Exactly how your ATS score is calculated
This is the part most people never see explained anywhere: your score out of 100 is built from 6 weighted categories. Contact info (15 pts) — name, email, phone, location all present. Professional summary (15 pts) — present, 40+ words, and written for your specific role rather than generic. Work experience (30 pts, the biggest single category) — entries present, real descriptions, at least one quantified metric per role, and strong action verbs instead of passive phrasing. Education (15 pts) — entries present with degree and field specified. Skills (15 pts) — 5 or more skills, mixing technical and soft skills rather than just one type. Formatting signals (10 pts) — LinkedIn or portfolio link present, consistent date formatting, no obvious errors. Add it up and you get a grade: A+ (90+), A (80-89), B+ (75-79), B (65-74), C+ (55-64), C (45-54), or D (under 45).
💡 Because Work Experience alone is worth 30 points — more than Education and Skills combined — the single highest-leverage thing you can do for your score is go back through your bullet points and add one real number to each.
